Vaping is a great way to transition off cigarettes and decrease the amount of nicotine you consume. It also has the added benefit of being fun, tasting great and participating with your peers in a social activity. Whether you are a newbie or experienced cloud chaser, finding a downside to vaping is hard. The exception is vape spitting.
This is when you get some droplets of e-juice shooting into your mouth while using your device, and it’s not a pleasant experience. Vape juice like Cold Turkey Juice taste good when you are vaping. However, it doesn’t belong directly in your mouth. It can be overly hot, bitter, and even sting, creating a negative vaping experience.
What’s going on here, and what can I do about it? Here is how to stop vape juice from getting into your mouth.
Why am I getting vape juice in my mouth?
E-juice is meant to be vaporized, but new and experienced users have this vape spitting. There are a few reasons why it’s happening.
Wrong Or Faulty Coils
If you have an incorrect coil for your device, excess liquid can pass through the coils and be sucked out the tip into your mouth. Over time, the seals in coils or atomizers can get tiny cuts or scrapes that cause a leak on the side of the O ring.
Overfilling Your Tank
When refilling your tank is time, you want to top it up as much as possible to get the longest use. This is practical, but if you load it over the fill line, that excess liquid can be sucked in until the level drops.
Other reasons include the following:
- Inhaling too fast
- Holding the device at the wrong angle
- Low-quality e-juice
Often you will hear a gurgling sound as you vape, indicating flooding.
How to stop getting vape juice in your mouth
Prevention is typically the key to fixing this problem, so here are some great tips to prevent vaping juice in our mouths.
1. Only Fill to the Fill Line
Clean your tank out first before refilling it. This is best done by disassembling it and rinsing all the parts under warm water, and if you need to, clean out any residue with a cotton swab or paper towel.
Let the parts air dry completely and then reassemble. Now you can fill the tank slowly with liquid and stop at or before the fill line. Remember, vaping is all about quality, not quantity.
2. Choose the Right E-Juice
Depending on your device type, e-juices are more or less compatible. Higher PG ratios make a thinner e-juice taste more flavourful, but VG juices may be a better option. Because they are thicker, they take more time to soak into the wick and are less likely to take on too much liquid. This helps avoid the potential of vape juice in your mouth.
3. Let Your New Tank Heat Up
A newly filled tank needs a couple of minutes to get acclimated, and if you don’t wait, you could get a liquid leak and spit back. Allow your device some time to turn that liquid into vapour, and then make your first few drags short and slow as it all warms up. This kind of patience pays off.
4. Turn Your Power Up
Sometimes when a vaping device is turned down too low, it cannot properly vaporize the liquid, especially if you are an avid user. Turning up the power will increase the vaporizing, decreasing the chances of a leak. However, this is a balancing act because you don’t want to burn out your coils. Increase the power gradually and feel it out until you hit the sweet spot.
5. Don’t Tilt Your Device To High
Your vape device is designed for regular use when the bottom faces the ground. If it is tilted up higher than your mouth, like when you are lying down, it is easier for the juice to leak out into your mouth. Also, ensure you have a firm grip on your device so you don’t drop it and shake everything up.
6. Tightening up Your Device
Your device is made of multiple parts, and you need to ensure it is snuggly assembled. Too loose and condensation can form in open spaces where the liquid may drain into your mouthpiece. Too tight, and you can damage the seal of the O ring. Use enough pressure to make things solid, and you should be fine.

While you want to avoid this, it will happen occasionally, and it is a telltale sign that your device is leaking. This is what you will experience:
