Four Ways to Stay Healthy: University Tips for Students

University is a season of life when many young people are living on their own for the first time in their lives, and that includes being responsible for their own health. From smartphone apps to essay writing services, here are four ways that university students can stay healthy.

1. Eat Right and Exercise

Most people are at least aware that eating right and exercising are important, but on a day-to-day basis, it’s easy to drive through for a chicken sandwich and skip leg day when you’ve got so many other things to think about. Even if you feel young and invincible, though, this is going to catch up with you. You need to be at your best to be your best, and that includes self-care and maintenance.

So devote a few hours on the weekend to grocery shopping and meal prep so that during a busy week, it’s just as easy to heat up chicken and broccoli as it is to call for a pizza. Keep your workout schedule just like you keep your class schedule. Do not feel as if taking care of yourself is a waste of time – what’s really a waste of time is losing a few days to being sick!

2. Avoid Unnecessary Stress

In the same way that being sedentary and eating foods that don’t truly nourish you, chronic stress takes a toll on your body and brain. Do everything that you can to make sure that you’re not constantly running on adrenaline, since that leads to hard crashes and even harder recoveries.

This includes getting a solid eight hours of sleep every night, and it’s hard to do that when all that you can think about is the next assignment that’s due. If you find yourself in a place where you have too much to do and not enough time to do it all, and it’s wearing you down, you may want to work with an essay writing service to get some of it off your plate.

3. There’s an App for That

It’s especially true these days that there are smartphone apps for everything, and that includes ways to manage your health. If you need a prescription refilled, you can order it through your pharmacy’s app and you may even be able to have it delivered or mailed to you. Many doctors are seeing patients through telemedicine, so you may not even have to go into the office. Mental healthcare providers are especially moving to telemedicine, which can be a boon for university students who find themselves in need of someone to talk to.

4. Indulge in Moderation

University is a time for socializing and experimenting, and in many ways, that’s a healthy thing in itself. But it’s also easy to try to “keep up” with your peers, and that’s not necessarily healthy. Partake in alcohol and other recreational substances in moderation. A good rule to follow is at least one glass of water for every alcoholic drink; not only does this keep you hydrated (which helps ward off, or at least somewhat alleviate, hangovers) but it keeps you from drinking too much alcohol too quickly.
