Six years. I’m not exactly sure how that happened.
When my husband and I married six years ago, we were living on the other side of the country and getting ready to move to the East Coast for the first time. The only thing we were sure of regarding our future was that we would be out East for one year, while he pursued a Master’s Degree.
Never in a million years, would either one of us predicted that six years later, we would have been living in Boston for 5 years, both have gone back to school, and be happier and more in love than when we said “I do.”
Neither one of us would also have predicted that for our sixth anniversary, the “type” of restaurant we would both enjoy would be Farm to Table. In fact, six years ago, I had no clue that there were restaurants that even mentioned the source of their food, and I sure never cared about where the food I ate came from.
Fast-forward to today and I am automatically smitten whenever we pass a restaurant that changes their menu daily, based on what’s local. I have completely come to appreciate the added flavor and freshness of foods that were literally just picked from the ground. And I am more entertained by watching others cook than watching a movie.
So when hubby said he wanted to surprise me with our Anniversary Dinner, I knew it would be good.
He took me to Evoo Restaurant, in Cambridge, where we had a high-top booth directly in-front of the chef’s kitchen! We were able to see EVERYTHING being prepared (which made deciding on our entrees a lot more fun!).
As you can see from the menu below, they list all their sources of food. The top source? ”Rooftop Garden.” Yes, during dinner we literally saw people leave the kitchen and come back a few minutes later with freshly picked herbs from their own roof!
The offer ordering individual items off the menu, or your choice of 3 courses (starter, entree and dessert) for quite the deal. We definitely went with the latter.
I do apologize that the pictures are so dark, but just had to share with your our creative dishes.
The meal started with freshly made bread and breadsticks served in this fun strainer (so creative!).
For my starter, I chose the Corn Bisque with Roasted Peppers and Chili Dusted Popcorn (I loved this! I wasn’t sure how I would feel about popcorn garnishing my soup, but it was so good! The consistency was similar to croutons, where some held their crunch and others absorbed the delicious soup).
Hubby started with their Braised Turkey Ravioli with Mushrooms and Sherry. Again, such a fun twist on a tradition dish! This had a slightly Asian taste to it, and we both really enjoyed the unique flavors!
For our entrees, I enjoyed a generous serving of their Salmon with Corn Risotto and Tomato-Basil Relish, while hubby had their “Chinese Box,” which was shrimp, beef, rice and veggies literally served on the plate in an upside-down take-out box.
Ugh, and this dessert. While we try to choose different things from the menu so we have more to taste, we both couldn’t imagine getting anything else but their Chocolate Lava cake with torched Marshmallows. This. was. so. good. It was perfectly cooked with the firm outer layer and gooey center, and the marshmallow sauce surrounding it just added an extra layer of sweetness and texture. I would definitely go back just for this!
And to finish the meal, they surprised us a bowl of their homemade ice cream decorated for our anniversary!
What a perfect way to celebrate the six best years of my life.
P.S. We paid for this entire meal and they don’t even know who I am. Just wanted to share with you our fun meal!
