One of the things that shocked me the most about entering adulthood was how difficult it can be to figure out work-life balance. It sounds so simple, right? There’s work. And there’s life.
But, as we all know, it’s not as simple as it seems. There work, and there’s familyfriendscommunityhobbiesbillscookingexercisingsleepingcleaningbreathing life.
Some days I feel balanced and so proud of myself. I’m able to get 8 hours of sleep, work a full day, exercise, cook, connect with people I love, and and still sneak in a few minutes of free time.
Then, there are other days. I feel like I’m dragging within 2 hours of waking-up, my to-do list seems never-ending, and I just can’t ever seem to feel “caught-up.”
Life constantly seems to demand a game of give and take. We feel we’re on-top of the world one day, and the next, something unexpected happens and all our plans are out the window. There are things we have to give-up in order to ensure we’re meeting our priorities.
Sitting down to home-cooked, healthy meals together is a priority my husband and I try to make sure happens consistently. While we know this isn’t possible to do every night, it’s important to both of us that we make it a regular routine. Eating dinner together isn’t always easy though, and we all know it can be incredibly time-consuming to plan meals, buy the ingredients and actually cook the meal.
So when I was given the opportunity to try Hello Fresh, I was really excited. It’s an understatement to say I was giddy as I opened the container and pulled out one fresh ingredient after another!…

Hello Fresh is a company that creates recipes and literally delivers everything you need to cook them to your door. Each week, you are given a choice of 5 recipes to choose from (or 3 veggie meals); you decide if you want the ingredients for 2, 4 or 6 people. Once you make your decision the ingredients will be delivered to your home, and most recipes take under 30 minutes to cook. All you need to have at home are salt, pepper, sugar, olive oil and butter; they will provide you with the rest!
I had no idea what ingredients are recipes I would be given to try. I was ecstatic to pull-out a recipe card for fish tacos! This is one of my favorite meals to eat, and to be completely honest, after one bad incident trying to cook fish (and an odor we couldn’t get rid of for days!), I have been avoiding it for way too long and just order it in restaurants. So I loved that this recipe instantly made me go out of my comfort zone, while providing clear instructions so I felt comfortable giving it a try!
Here is the recipe card and most of the ingredients for the Fish Tacos with Crunchy Slaw. All of the ingredients were incredibly fresh and in great condition. I can be very picky when it comes to produce and this surpassed my expectations!
After following the directions, here was our finished product! I am thrilled this got me over my fear of cooking fish and loved the idea of adding a cabbage slaw to our tacos, something I probably wouldn’t think of on my own! We definitely enjoyed this meal and had lots of leftovers.
The next meal we tried was the Spicy Chicken with Udon Noodles. I really liked trying a new type of noodle and especially appreciated how everything was already measured out for us!
I could definitely see how Hello Fresh could be ideal for the family who loves to cook and eat fresh meals, but could use help with planning meals and/or doing the grocery shopping.
