My husband and I have several “staple” ingredients that we pick-up weekly at the grocery store. These usually include items for our breakfast, lunch and snacks throughout the week. Some of these items include: sandwich bread, granola bars, trail mix and/or nut packs (we LOVE the individual mixed nut packs from Trader Joe’s) and fruit.
Since we both pack a lunch everyday, we try to invest in high-quality foods that will keep us healthy and full throughout the day. We always figure that spending an extra few dollars on foods we’ll feel good (and excited!) about eating will keep us motivated to pack our lunch, and still save us money as compared to going out to eat.
When it comes to bread, we’re pretty picky about the brand we will buy. We often purchase Nature’s Pride Bread in their 100% Whole Wheat, 12 Grain or Multi-Grain loaf. We both love the fresh flavor and soft texture!
One of my favorite sandwichs to make is a Veggie and Hummus Sandwich. Simply take two slices of bread, generously spread your favorite hummus over each slice and then top it with your favorite veggies (I usually use lettuce, tomato, cucumber and peppers) and feta cheese.
