My husband and I have been married for 5 years.
For 5 years he has wanted to surprise me with breakfast in bed.
For 5 years, I have never slept past 7am. Usually, by the time my husband wakes-up at a “reasonable” time like 8 or 9am, I have eaten breakfast, drank my coffee, planned meals for the week and caught-up on the news. So, breakfast in bed has never been an “easy” goal to accomplish.
But he still figured out a way to make it happen last weekend, when we celebrated my birthday! On Saturday morning, my husband set his alarm for 6am and quietly went to the kitchen as soon as the alarm made a sound. When I poked my head out at about 6:15am, there was a note outside our bedroom….
I made my breakfast choice as he met me at the door with my laptop and a stack of magazines, and told me I needed to go back in bed and relax. Well friends, that’s exactly what I did. As I sat in bed reading your blogs, deciding what delicious new recipes I wanted to try, and feeling giddy about the day, my husband ran up and down the stairs to…
1) Bring me coffee. He doesn’t drink coffee but knows that my morning is not complete without a cup…
2) Bring me an “appetizer” of a green juice. This was a combination of green apples and cucumber. What a refreshing way to start the day!
3) Made me this deeeelicious breakfast of potatoes, tomato, pepper, onions, garlic, feta, and egg (using mostly ingredients from our CSA)!
After a PERFECT morning (and my first official breakfast in bed!) we played a fun game of tennis then headed to Granby, MA for a Tomato Festival at our CSA!
Friends, I have never seen so many tomatoes in my life!
There were sections for tasting tomatoes, voting for your favorite tomato, buying tomatoes, and my favorite part, eating tomatoes!
We had this fresh and flavorful wood-fried pizza for lunch…
…hung out and listened to live music, walked to different vendors, sat in the “chef’s tent” to learn about canning tomatoes, and were amazed and how many different types of tomatoes there are!
The weather was absolutely perfect and once again, I just love seeing where our food is grown that we’re picking-up every single week!
After a fun afternoon, we headed back into the Boston area for yet another surprise. After a bit of walking downtown, we arrived at our final destination: BarLola. Oh. My. Gosh. If you are in the Boston area and like tapas, you need to eat here! This meal was fantastic!
From the fruity sangria to the flaky empanadas, fresh jamon with Manchengo cheese, and crispy croquettes, I loved every.single.bite. of this meal!
They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, but my husband has quickly learned that phrase actually applies in reverse, to his wife. The way to celebrate my birthday is a day focused on delicious food! Thank You, Hubby!
~What has been/is your perfect birthday celebration?
