Red Wine Sangria: Summer Bucket List

by simplylife on August 22, 2012

I’ve had a bit of a summer bucket list tucked away in my mind.  I want to be open to whatever the summer days may bring without being tied to a list, but also want to make sure that I don’t get stuck in my day-to-day routine without truly taking advantage of this fruitful season.

So, without further ado, here is what my summer bucket list has included:

Until last week, I had never made sangria before.  It’s definitely my favorite “adult” beverage; we even had it at our wedding!  I’m not sure why I never thought to make it on my own, but I’m glad that I added this to my bucket list so I finally had the motivation to give it a try!

This recipe is so simple, yet completely turns a typical bottle of wine into a fun, seasonable drink!

Red Wine Sangria

by Simply Life

 Adapted from Bon Appetit

Keywords: beverage summer

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 4 packets Sweet’N Low (or other preferred sugar/sweetener)
  • 1 orange, cut off ends and thinly slice
  • 1 lemon, cut off ends and thinly slice
  • 1 lime, cut off ends and thinly slice
  • 1 apple, cored and chopped
  • 1 750-milliliter bottle red wine

Instructions

Combine orange juice and sugar in a large pitcher. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Add orange, lemon, lime, and apple. Gently press fruit with the back of a wooden spoon to release juices. Add wine and stir to combine. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (original recipes says you can keep it refrigerated up to 48 hours). Serve and enjoy.

I was sent samples of Sweet’N Low and received compensation for this post as a part of a DailyBuzz Tastemaker program with Sweet’N Low.

This looks wonderful! I’ve never made sangria either :) Maybe I should!
I hope you can fit in some camping! We will have camped twice by the end of this summer… Would like to do more but oh well :)

You know, I’ve never made sangria either! This summer has flown by, but there’s still some time to check off more items…

Come to think of it, I have never made sangria either. Looks like your turned out nicely. I didn’t have a summer bucket list, but I did have a living in Japan bucket list and it seems like in 1 year I did 33 out of 100 things, so I am off to a good start.

I should have made a summer bucket list. However, I worry that if I did, it may have not been completed. Seems like it went so quickly!

Sangria is my favorite cocktail too. I make it a lot more often than I should hehehe

  • Andrea@WellnessNotes

Sounds like you had a great summer! I’ve been wanting to make sangria for a long time. Thanks for the recipe!

We haven’t been to the beach yet this summer. Hope to get there before summer is gone…

I´ll suggest you another one, the one you drink in the south of spain. You can add fruits, a lot of ice, and either a lemon gas beverage or gaseosa which is sweet soda water. If you drink just wine with a sweet lemon beverage, remember we call that “Tinto de verano” which is our “summer wine”.
In any case, yours looks very “drinkable”, well done Gina.
Love from Spain, the country where you drink more sangrías than nowhere else..

Yes! Tinto de verano was always the drink my friends and I would have when I was in Spain! Oh, I miss that!…

This is a very necessary thing to check off your bucket list! I made peach sangria with white wine and St.Germaine earlier this summer which was fun!

Looks yummy! I’ve not had sangria in forever it seems. Before you try any DIYs make sure you read my blog from tonight about what happened when I tried to brine a t-shirt…yikes!

I feel like I didn’t accomplish much off of my summer bucket list and I have to go back to work on Monday :-(

  • Mom

I actually didn’t have a goal for the summer but I thinks it’s a great idea. In fact, I think I’ll start a bucket list for the fall.
