Pistachio and Parmesan Naan Flatbread: Spring Cleaning

by simplylife on April 28, 2012

Have you done a “spring cleaning” this year?

Do you get the urge to spend an entire day deep-cleaning every corner and hidden nook in your home?  Do you want to rearrange the furniture, sweep under the couch and get rid of all the old half-started craft projects that you were sure you would get to during the winter.

Yeah, I get that urge too.

Except I don’t know how to take it from urge to action.  I want all the clutter to be neatly organized and simplified.  I would love to see what the living room looks like if we rearranged the furniture.

Yet, when it comes to “cleaning day,” all I want to do is make sure the crumbs are swept-up and the tub is scrubbed as quickly as possible so I can use my precious free time to be outdoors, reading a book…doing something I enjoy.

So I try to find little things to motivate me.  While the pile of unfinished crafts may still be sitting in a growing pile on my desk, using this Pistachio and Parmesan Naan Flatbread as my motivation to know that in the 10 minutes it took to put this together I could at least go through that old pile of mail helped to complete one task.  Gotta start somewhere, right?

Whether I end up cleaning for one hour or an entire afternoon, I do always look for quick and easy snacks to keep me going (and that won’t add to the mess).  I was sent these three different flavors compliments of Chunks of Energy: Raw Cacao with Goji, High Country G.O.R.P., and Chocolate Almond Chip.  They offer raw, vegn, gluten-free and dairy-free products.  In addition to the flavors they sent me, they have tons more flavors to choose from!

I really enjoyed all three flavors and appreciated that even the “chocolate” flavors weren’t overly sweet!  Their list of ingredients is incredibly impressive.  For example, the ingredients in the Raw Cacoa with Goji include dates, sunflower seeds, raisins, apricots, cacao powder, coconut, and goji powder (all organic and raw).  These would be great to take with on a log hike as they are packed with “real” ingredients and easy to eat on-the-go!

I’m totally the same way. I want everything to get done…but I want it to magically require no effort from me to actually GET it done. Because I’d rather be baking or running or walking or breathing fresh air…etc. 🙂 This flatbread sounds amazing! I might be able to convince myself to clean SOMETHING if I bribed myself with a slab of this.

Are these the TJ’s naans? I’m going there today, and I have such a craving for pizzas made with them!

    • http://www.simplylifeblog.com/ Simply Life

      Yes! They are from TJ’s!

I must say I would eat the desert before the meal…!!! They look so good! I have found that I like to close myself in one room and gut it out, then go on to the next. Otherwise, I get distracted and don’t complete a task. It feels so refreshing and brings a clear mind knowing what is where ! Music helps me a lot to stay happy while doing it 🙂

mmm the pistachios are such a fun touch! I’ve been SLOWLY working my way through spring cleaning! Hard with the peanut around!!

I dread the spring cleaning but definitely motivate myself every once in a great while. and it always feels so good after.

I’ve been cleaner than ever since I started living with my husband. He likes things organized and clean at all times.. I’ve always been a little messy (not crazy messy like some people out there but..), but I’m learning to clean and organize everyday. It’s actually nice 🙂
These look amazing, I love all your naan recipes! I bet the crunch of the pistachio adds nice texture…

I did a big spurt of cleaning right before we had visitors–generally Spring Break at school is my spring cleaning times, but that’s when our visitors were around. I really need to tear apart my closet, sort through my yarn stash, scrub behind the stove. It hasn’t been good “open the windows and clean” weather around here–either too hot or two cold.

Those naan look great (although, I do live with the master of putting cheese on TJ’s naan and calling it dinner, but the ones you’ve posted have been more my speed than “lots of Parmesan and a little garlic”…)

I go through fits and bursts of cleaning. At the moment the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. I love your naan bread. It looks like it would be delicious and full of texture and flavour. Pistachios are my favourite nut – just love the colour! xx

I really should be doing some spring cleaning, but it gets overwhelming… I think I’ll actually make a plan of what to tackle when… Maybe that will help…

    The naan sounds delicious!

  • Belinda

I get what you mean by spurts of cleaning! This would be such a wonderful incentive!

What a delicious way to spring clean!

I am so with you. I’m great at tidying, and basic cleaning, but the more detailed things – I’m absolutely terrible. I want to do them, but just don’t! Your ideas sound great, and these would definitely motivate me!

We spring cleaned when we put our house on the market. My favorite part was getting rid of stuff! For whatever reason, sending old clothes off to Goodwill feels more productive than scrubbing the shower. Maybe because I keep using it as an excuse to buy new clothes? 🙂 Love this naan!

  • Gina (Candid RD)

I’ll admit it….I love to clean! I think I would eat one of those chunks of energy, and then clean all day…and I’d be happy 🙂
This naan flatbread recipe sounds fantastic. Who would have thought to put pistachios on flatbread?! I love it.

  • Teri@managemacros.com

Today is a spring cleaning day here..while cooking, its is a great combo huh? I LOVE that bread topping. I am crazy about onion in any shape or form and I love it pared with the nut and cheese…you are genius! Have a great rest of your weekend…not cleaning! 🙂

I think the problem with Spring Cleaning is that it’s done so rarely that it’s overwhelming. So I clean non-stop and thus my house stays fairly organized and I don’t feel like it’s all stacked up at once!

    I LOVE naan…this looks delicious.

Hope you have a great Sunday!

I´m into spring cleaning too, my daughter is coming back home after 8 years and making room for her everywhere.

Every journey begins with a single step! Motivation can be a problem for me too. I try to tackle it one room at a time, or one job at a time, and not try to do everything at once.

    lovely meal looks wonderful

I’ve been having a really hard time getting the motivation to do spring cleaning too. argh! It doesn’t help that its been cold and rainy all weekend so I have no excuses

  • Amy (Savory Moments)

This is such an interesting and very unique combination of flavors and ingredients on your flatbreads!

Errr…… spring cleaning?? I’m allergic to cleaning. I hate doing chores. Hahaha! But I enjoy cooking. Thank God, else my hubby will kick me out of the house. I can almost smell your flatbread from here. Lovely!
