What Will You Put in Your Oats?

by simplylife on October 12, 2011

Like many of you, my morning often begins with a steaming bowl of oats.  Oats have been a regular part of my breakfast since college, however they have definitely taken on a new form (and taste) since blogging.  I typically used to add a sliced banana and dash of cinnamon.  Since I’ve started blogging and have learned from so many of your creative bowls, there’s not much I won’t put in my oats!

I don’t typically post about my breakfasts because 1) they would get very old and boring and 2) I’d rather be looking at your photos of food in the morning than taking my own.  However, when this package from Sunland arrived with three different types of nut butter I couldn’t help from sharing it with you!

For my three choices I decided to play it safe and stick to something I knew I’d look forward to in my oats.  I was sent the Natural Almond Butter, Organic Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter and Banana Peanut Butter Spread.  I’m still getting used to the flavor of the Banana PB spread – I love the peanut butter flavor but it makes me wonder where my banana chunks are!  I will say that I am loving the Dark Chocolate PB; I mean, who wouldn’t want to start their day out with chocolate, peanut butter and oats?!?!

Sunland makes SO many fun-flavored nut butters that I never would have thought of, like Thai Ginger & Red Pepper, Cherry Vanilla and Caramel Peanut Butter!  To learn more about Sunland and the products they offer, click here!

(Also, I’m still having a few glitches with the new set-up; would you please let me know if you’re receiving blog updates? THANKS!)

I haven’t eaten oats for breakfast in so long! I was on a huge oatmeal kick for about 3 years then reverted to eggs and have been there for about a year. I may return to oatmeal breakfasts sometime soon. :)

I’ve put peanut butter in my oats before, and it’s yummy! I love putting canned pumpkin in my oats, especially in the fall. It’s the perfect way to use up any leftover pumpkin after baking with it!
P.S. – your most recent posts still aren’t showing up in my google reader :(

Isn’t it amazing how much the food blogging world impacts our cooking? I’m not much a big oats fan, but I do find that I’ve gotten more creative with my bowls of cereal. I like to add peanut butter and cinnamon too! Bananas and berries also make my “must add” list.

Your suggestions sounds pretty good. I love poached pears in my oats. Nothing quite like an additional fibre boost to start the day.

Yummy, those nut butters look delicious! I actually just saw them at the grocery store yesterday!

My favorite topping for oatmeal is granola, honey, and yogurt!

I usually add PB or other nut butter and some jam or fruit butter, or just brown sugar. I LOVE Sunland nut butters but they are so hard to find!

I recieved the update in my reader :) For some reason I’m not a fan of nut butters in my oats, don’t know why!

I’m definitely going to look for this; dark chocolate and peanut butter. OOh, how that would brighten up my oatmeal in the morning!!

They carry them at my local grocers and was always tempted to buy them for my daughter’s pb and j sandwiches. I am glad to hear the Sunland Chocolate and PB is good. Will pick it up on my next shopping trip.

As for the bananas… I was curious how they prolong the life of banana in a jar. So I would imagine its not real banana but maybe an extract to flavor?

Yes, it is – which is a little disappointing but I guess it makes sense!
