No, you’re not seeing things; Simply Life has a few changes! After way too much time debating about a “new look,” the pros and cons of self-hosting and if I could actually teach myself HTML “language” (the answer is no; I tried, failed, tried and ended up nearly in tears), I enlisted a good (patient) friend, a talented blog designer and a bit of my own time to give Simply Life a “refresher.”
At first, I was ready to go for “the head-to-toe” makeover. I started keeping a list of blogs I liked the look of and the styles I would want. However, when I started to think about what I wanted the “new look” of Simply Life to be, I basically wanted what I’ve had all along: something (I think) is clean, natural and welcoming….just a bit “cleaned-up.”
Isn’t it funny how sometimes it just takes a moment of reflection to realize we already have what we want?
Thankfully, our patient, kind and generous friend, Seth, who already has tons of experience in web design offered to make the switch from Blogger to WordPress, and then self-hosted on DreamHost. He also added Thesis Theme (which I’m finding very user-friendly) and Disqus, along with a few other changes.
After that foundation was set, I then worked with the talented (and also very patient; yes, this is a requirement if it involves things words like pixels and widgets) Julie from Savvy Eats. Julie helped me to make changes to the design so that it all “fit” together and was so kind, flexible and responsive throughout the entire process.
Thank you to everyone who helped make these changes and thank YOU for continuing to read Simply Life!
If you’d like to know more about Seth, here is his blog and twitter account (he just finished a 30 day series on coffee).
Oh and the perfect meal to munch-on while you’re making these changes? Roasted veggies (turnips, carrots, potatoes and onions) alongside a grilled prosciutto and gruyere panini.
